Following on from a good 2014, the number of visitors to Malaga and the Costa del Sol has once again broken records in the first half of this year. New statistics reveal that Malaga-Costa del Sol Airport exceeded its best ever figures by registering 6,441,405 passengers in the first six months of 2015 and also handled more luggage than ever before. A total of 49,618 flights were recorded, the airport authority AENA explained, and more than two million suitcases were handled between January and June compared to 1,941,342 in the same period in 2014. June alone saw a record 1,478,204 people pass through the airport, 3.1 per cent more than in June 2014, and the peak was registered between 10am and 11am on Sunday June 7, with 6,509 passengers in just one hour. The majority, 515,112, travelled to or from the UK, while 180,884 came from or went to other parts of Spain.
