AROUND 80,000 people, 90 per cent of them under the age of 30, have been left without a cheap and reliable way home from a night out as the summer night tram service that connects Alicante, Albufereta Beach, San Juan, El Campello, San Vicente and Benidorm, has been cancelled. The night service, which ran trams in the early hours of the morning at the weekends throughout July and August, has operated since 1988 but has now been suspended due to a lack of staff. It has had a knock on effect for the bus service with hundreds of youngsters waiting for the night buses putting safety at risk with more than the permitted number of passengers trying to cram on to the buses.
