BANCOSOL, the Costa del Sol food bank, is gearing up for this year’s edition of the Gran Recogida collection campaign and is looking for volunteers.
Following the great success of the event last year, during which Malaga province ranked fifth in Spain for the amount of food collected and surpassed its goal of 600,000 tonnes by almost 100,000, this year the odds are up as the goal has been set at 750,000 tonnes.
This means, explained Manuel Alarcon, Bancosol coordinator, that even more collection points and volunteers are needed.
Not only will volunteers be needed to staff collection points during the event (November 27-28), they will also be needed over the following two months to help classify and distribute donations.
Altogether the food bank estimates between 4,500 and 5,000 volunteers are needed across the 349 collection points in the province.
