WORK has started to build two paddle tennis courts at the sports complex by the lighthouse on Torre del Mar seafront.
The project has a €60,000 budget, of which €49,586 has been provided under a regional government grant.
Deputy Mayor for Torre del Mar Jesus Perez Atencia, Velez-Malaga Sports Councillor Maria Jose Roberto and Town Planning and Infrastructure Councillor Cynthia Garcia visited the site on Monday (November 9) as work began.
Awarded to Guansa Sport, which made the best of the seven proposals offered, the work is due to take one month and the courts will cover an area of about 450 square metres.
Improvements to the surrounding grounds, gardening and repair tasks are also planned, with a budget of €20,484 from Rural Employment Boost Program funds.
Once the courts are ready, an estimated 600 people will take lessons and about €3,000 per year can be expected in rental fees, the sports councillor explained.
