FAR from becoming a thing of the past, alcoholism is on the up and is affecting people from earlier ages ARA Alcoholics Association in Almeria has reported.
This year, the association has attended to 254 people, 229 of them male. ARA president Jose Salvadero announced last week before the presentation of an Alcohol-Free Day event held in Almeria City on Saturday (November 14).
Other associations and the authorities also registered increasing numbers and the most worrying were reports of teenagers as young as 14 needing treatment after serious drinking sessions.
Alcohol-Free Day was held to fill a need for more awareness on the dangers of excessive or premature drinking, with Paseo de Almeria closed to traffic all afternoon on Saturday to host events, exhibitions and talks.
