Ben Haenow.
IT HAS just been announced by the Gibraltar Cultural Services, on behalf of H.M. Government of Gibraltar that they are delighted to welcome Ben Haenow as the international act performing at the May Day Celebrations to be held at Grand Casemates Square on Sunday May 1.
Ben Haenow is an English singer, who won the 2014 X Factor competition after beating Fleur East who has herself gone on to have a very successful career. His debut single ‘Something I Need’ became the Christmas number one in the UK singles chart keeping out the Mark Ronson inspired ‘Uptown Funk’, after selling 214,000 copies in its first week.
He was automatically signed to Simon Cowell’s Syco Music and spent several months in Los Angeles recording his debut album ‘Ben Haenow’ which was released in November 2015 and included the single ‘Second Hand Heart’, a duet with Kelly Clarkson. The former van driver from Croydon has now parted company amicably with Syco Music and is looking to record his second album shortly.
The May Day Celebrations will begin at 11am with a Family Fun Day which will include live music and live performances by Mediterranean Dance School, Stylos Dance Studios, Kristian Celecia, The Kubes, Karma 13, Omnibus, Shot Break, The Undesirables 141, and the Gibraltar Youth Choir.
