Some of the David Bowie stamps
THE Royal Mail has announced it will issue a set of 10 stamps and a souvenir sheet on March 14 in recognition and tribute to the late David Bowie as part of its on-going tribute to modern British performers.
At one time the decision to release commemorative stamps was one which had to be considered very seriously as an effigy (often in cameo) of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II or the Royal Cypher appears on every stamp.
For this reason, it was considered inappropriate to be seen to be promoting any commercial concern or to feature any living person who was not part of the British Royal Family but over the years this rule, which was also duplicated in many other countries throughout the world, has been changed dramatically.
