“You were only supposed to blow the bloody doors off”

BANKS in Madrid have been attacked by criminals who used explosives to blow up cash machines.

Officers from the National Police were aware of three explosions undertaken by the same gang and having worked out their modus operandi, were nearby when the gang undertook their fourth attempted robbery.

Two members were arrested on the spot and two attempted to get away in a stolen getaway vehicle with €62,000.

One of those fleeing was tackled and pulled out of the car whilst the driver attempted to run over the officer involved.

The remaining robber fled onto the M-30 reaching speeds of up to 220 kilometres per hour.

All of the money was recovered and officers believe that it was luck rather than judgement that the uncontrolled use of explosives did not cause any injuries as all of the machines were sited at the bottom of residential buildings.

The three arrested have been sent straight to prison and the case remains open.
