A TOURIST has died in Son Espases hospital, Mallorca after being run over by her own hire car in Andratx.
The 70-year-old French woman and her husband, who were staying at a hotel in Illetes, were driving to Cala Llamp, when they parked up in a pine wood so that the deceased could get out to go to the toilet.
For reasons yet unknown, the car began rolling backwards ‘uncontrollably’ and the woman was knocked down and dragged several metres.
Her husband was still inside, but was unable to stop the vehicle before it came to a standstill after colliding with a tree.
Police, ambulance crews and fire fighters attended and managed to lift the car, releasing the victim.
She was admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit, but died from her ‘very serious’ injuries the same day.
The Local Police of Andratx is investigating the circumstances.
