A 45-year-old paraglider died on Tuesday after falling from a cliff.
He had become entangled in a tree before it broke free sending him plummeting to his death into a quarry in Villaviciosa (Asturias) sources from the Guardia Civil and the Emergency Services of Asturias (SEPA) reported.
According to Guardia Civil, the man had launched along with another paraglider from a viewpoint at about 4.45pm, and after gaining height headed for the beach. But an air current caught him and pushed him towards the cliffs where he became hooked in the branches of a tree.
These gave way and he fell about 50 metres into the quarry. Firefighters needed to use a helicopter and 30 metres of cable to reach him as the rapidly rising tide made land access difficult.
