THE dates have been set for Torremolinos Pride 2020.
One of the most colourful events of the year in the town will be held from May 30 to June 7, again making it the first of the LGTBI pride events held on the peninsula each year.
“Torremolinos can boast of being a pioneer in diversity in Spain and of being one of the gay-friendly places with the most international and national reach,” said Councillor for Diversity, Aída Blanes.
This year 13 LGTBI associations took part, with more than 100 stalls located mainly in the Plaza de La Nogalera and the Hotel Ritual, the first LGTBI hotel in Andalucia, which opened in 2017.
More than 60,000 people attended the fifth edition of the event, beating the attendance record. In what was presented as a tribute to the riots at New York’s Stonewall Inn bar, which gave rise to what we know today as LGBTI Pride.
The ‘pomk piund’ is becoming ever more important in the tourism sector, with the World Tourism Organization (WTO), which indicates that the LGBTI segment represents 10 per cent of travellers and 15 per cent of global tourism spending.
