LOCAL Police in Estepona are in the midst of a Christmas campaign to deter thieves and pickpockets.
The ‘Safe Commerce’ operation started last week and is being run jointly with the National police, as is being done in towns and cities all along the Costa del Sol.
Extra patrols of uniformed and plain clothes officers are keeping a watch not just on the busy shopping streets, but also on all places where acts and events related to the Christmas season are held, such as occasional markets, where large numbers of people are expected.
The campaign will continue until January 7. In addition, this year surveillance will be intensified during the nights in industrial and warehouse areas to prevent theft of goods.
There will be another special ‘device’ mounted for Three Kings Day, this time aimed at ensuring the safety of people viewing the parades.
