THE Armella cross, which mystified Javea residents by temporarily disappearing, has now been re-positioned near its original location. The familiar landmark was formerly located in the middle of the intersection between the Benitachell, Old Teulada and Lluca roads. “The cross was damaged on too many occasions after being hit by heavy vehicles taking the crossroads at speed and it was decided to move it to protect it,” municipal sources explained. The returned cross made from the local “tosca” sandstone now stands a few metres from its previous site but still dominates the intersection which centuries ago was one of the principal accesses to the town.
