BENIDORM’S Foietes park was singled out for an award from the Alicante Public Works Federation (FOPA). The park and its eco-friendly integration in an urban setting was the best environmental project to be carried out in 2017 and 2018, FOPA decided. Benidorm’s mayor Toni Perez has now received the award at a ceremony in Alicante City attended by Ximo Puig, president of the regional government, Carlos Mazon, president of Alicante’s provincial council, the Diputacion, and the mayor of Alicante, Luis Barcal. Earlier, on learning of the Foietes award, Perez expressed satisfaction at the recognition of Benidorm town hall’s commitment to urban regeneration. The 70,000-square metre park was created with the idea of turning neglected wasteland into a usable urban setting, “but always the intention of achieving the greatest and best-possible integration with its surroundings,” Perez stressed.
