UK Expat Pensioners Anxious over Rises in Muggings and Pickpocketing in Spain’s Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca Areas

CALLOUS thieves are using the lockdown schedule to target pensioners in an increased tally of mugging and pickpocketing that is worrying UK expats in Spain’s Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca areas.

Timetables of when older people can go out for walks are leading to reports of rising street thefts, as crooks know when more vulnerable residents are going outside for some exercise.

These schedules were published when Spain moved into Phase 0 in the first part of reducing the State of Alarm lockdown measures last week.

The most recent incident has seen the police in Fuengirola launching an operation to catch a thief who robbed a pensioner.

Authorities have warned older people to be extra vigilant when going out and to choose areas, whenever possible, which are likely to have other walkers, whilst maintaining social distancing rules.
