Town in Spain’s Costa del Sol Has Just Added 10 New Murals to its Street Art Collection

The winning mural The Fall Credit: Estepona Council

ESTEPONA is becoming world famous for the artwork that appears on the side of its buildings and finally, having been delayed because of the lockdown, the council in collaboration with the Unicaja Foundation has revealed the winner of its latest mural competition.

From more than 100 applications, just 10 images were selected and artists came to Estepona to oversee the painting of the murals in situ.

Barcelona-based Russian artist Vyacheslav Gunin ‘Sav45’ was declared winner of the second International Art Mural Competition with the work ‘The Fall’ which depicts a woman who dreams of nature and took the €10,000 first prize.

The second prize, worth €5,000 went to Brazilian artist Andre Farkas ‘Treco’ for his work ‘The blue phase of the curious bird.’

The jury commented that his design gives a nod to Pablo Picasso and to the artistic avant-gardes of the first decades of the 20th century.

There are now 60 different murals around Estepona and to find out the location of the 10 newest acquisitions, visit the council’s Facebook page.
