HALF of the investment, €5.5 million, has been used to equip the facilities with the latest generation and high technology equipment that will support the Murcia Health Service (SMS).
Specifically it will support cancer patients at the Reina Sofía and Morales Meseguer hospitals, and will have the capacity to treat up to 1,500 patients a year.
In his first public appearance since the pandemic, Minister of Health, Manuel Villegas highlighted the fact the new 2,000 sqm IMED facility, located in Nueva Condomina shopping area, is equipped with two linear accelerators, a brachytherapy and a CAT scan team.
He said “it is a cause for celebration to have a new centre at the disposal of the people of Murcia”.
Ángel Gomez, IMED’s CEO, stressed that opening this centre “is an important milestone because it is the first time we have left the Valencian Community”, where there are currently seven centres and 1,500 employees.
“For us it is a reason for happiness to be here and start a new journey in Murcia”.
