ALEJANDRO and Maria were Almeria parents’ top name choices for their newborn sons and daughters last year. A ranking complied by the Andalucia Institute of Statistics and Cartography revealed 105 little girls born in the province last year were given the very traditional name Maria, representing 2.92 per cent of the total, while 78 little boys were called Alejandro, or 2.1 per cent. The second most popular name for baby girls in Almeria in 2019 was Sofia, with 69, followed by Lucia (60) and Martina (58). For boys, Hugo was the second most common choice, with 77. Daniel was third most common, with 63, and Antonio fourth, with 61.
