FOUR Nottingham Uni students have each been fined £10k for throwing a house party against lockdown rules and claim police ‘spoiled their fun’.
The Nottingham Trent third-years were caught by police this week playing host to over 30 revellers in a property in Kimbolton Avenue, Lenton, and were each slapped with a £10’000 fine. They have also been suspended from university pending an investigation.
Although the students had claimed everybody had left, when police entered the property they found dozens party-goers hiding in the kitchen, bedrooms and basement
Speaking after the incident, Assistant Chief Constable Kate Meynell said the stroppy students claimed they should be ‘having the time of their lives’ and that police ‘spoiled their fun’. She expressed her frustration over continued blatant flouting of the rules:
“How many fines do we have to give before the message is understood? We do not take pleasure in handing out fines and would much rather be in a situation where students could enjoy themselves but the reality is that if people do not follow the Covid-19 restrictions, more people will die.”
A spokesman for the university said that all four have been suspended and could face further disciplinary action.
