BREAKING UPDATE: Russian missile strike on Ukraine's capital Kyiv claims the life of Journalist Vira Hyrych Credit: Facebook Vira Hyrych
Update 11.44am (29 April) According to a report issued by Radio Liberty, one of their very own Journalist and Producers, Vira Hyrych was killed by the Russian missile that was fired yesterday evening on 28, April, with her body being found in the rubble in the early hours of Friday, 29, April.
“One of my @radiosvoboda colleagues in Kyiv, Vira Hyrych, was killed in yesterday’s Kyiv rocket attack. Vira was one of the nicest people in our bureau; patient, diligent, kind, and dedicated”, read a tweet posted by one of her former colleagues Mike Eckel.

The post provided a link to the Ukrainian Radio station’s website which provided a full report, where they stated: “Vira Hyrych started working in the Kyiv bureau of Radio Liberty on 1 February 2018. Prior to that, she worked for leading Ukrainian TV channels. The editorial team of Radio Liberty extends its sympathy to the family of Vira Girich and will remember her as a bright and kind person, a true professional.”
Original 7.55pm (28 April) BREAKING NEWS: Explosions reported in Ukraine’s Capital Kyiv with video footage showing confirmed missile strike.
On 28, April, reports of two large explosions on Thursday evening several kilometres east of the city center of Kyiv have been flooding social media. The alleged missile strike comes as the Head of the United Nations, Antonio Guterres visits Kyiv to hold talks with Ukrainian President Zelensky.
Svitlana Vodolaha an Emergency Service spokeswoman for the State of Ukraine has stated: “The shelling in Kyiv resulted in casualties, but it is not known how many.Two hits. One at a facility, another at the residential area near the facility. First floors have been hit, and there are people on the upper floors.”
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko stated:”The enemy fired on Kyiv. There were two hits in the Shevchenkivskyi district. All services are working on the scene. Information about casualties is being clarified.”

The news of the explosions in Kyiv comes at a time of escalating tension between both sides with reports of a Ukrainian man allegedly being tortured by Russian Forces for 12 days with finger cut off and four broken ribs, as well as The General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine publicly announcing the official figures on combat losses inflicted on Russian Forces.
