Good news if you live in Catalonia or the north-east and need a UK visa for work, study or family reasons.
A UK Visas & Immigration (UKVI) Premium Application Centre has opened in Barcelona, operated by VFS Global. It complements the existing Madrid centre, reducing travel time, easing queues, and adding a few comforts to an otherwise admin-heavy chore
Barcelona UK visa centre: address, opening days and who needs it
The new office is at Carrer de Sardenya 229, 3rd floor, Office 1, 08013 Barcelona. It’s appointment-only and open four days a week.
You don’t need a visa for short tourist trips if you’re a Spanish citizen. You do if you’re heading to the UK to work, study, join family or stay longer. Demand is steady: last year 7,045 Spain-based applicants filed UK visa requests, and early-2025 data shows Skilled Worker and Senior/Specialist Worker among the most popular routes.
How to book your UK visa appointment in Barcelona
The process is straightforward and starts online:
- Complete the application on the UKVI website (choose your visa type and pay the fee).
- When prompted to pick a biometrics location, select “VFS Global – Barcelona (Premium Application Centre)” and book your slot.
- Turn up with your passport and supporting documents for biometrics and submission.
Tip: if you’re travelling soon, the Priority or Super Priority processing options (where available for your route) can speed up decisions. Check availability during the online application.
Premium perks: keep your passport, track your case, skip the faff
Because this is a Premium Application Centre, you get access to extras that make life easier:
- Keep My Passport While Applying — once your biometrics are done, you keep your passport and hand it back only when a decision’s ready.
- Document-upload help — staff can scan and upload your paperwork correctly first time.
- SMS/email updates — opt in for real-time progress alerts.
- Courier return — have your passport delivered back after a decision, rather than collecting in person.
Barcelona’s new UK visa hub brings the whole process closer to home and adds useful conveniences for students, contractors, healthcare recruits and families alike. Book online, bring the right papers, and consider the “Keep My Passport” option if you’ve got travel lined up.
