Marbella’s new football stadium is starting to show some exciting progress in its central location right in the heart of the Costa del Sol’s second biggest city. Council officials granted approval to the basic project back in early April 2026.
Demolition paves the way for an ambitious rebuild
Workers started tearing down the old Estadio Antonio Lorenzo Cuevas on August 13, 2025. Crews just about finished clearing debris by November 2025, making way on the site for the construction teams to enter.
Private funding behind the €115-130 million vision
Marbella CF Foundation is financing the entire scheme privately. Plans feature a 10,000-capacity football venue plus a 90-room hotel, parking for more than 1,000 cars, a high-performance sports centre, wellness facilities, shops and restaurants.
Recent milestones boost construction hopes
The council has already accepted the basic plans this month. The Marbella CF Foundation submitted a bank guarantee worth around €3.19 million. The council issued an installation licence at the end of March 2026. Detailed execution documents must arrive within roughly two months before main building work begins in earnest, although signs of groundworks are said to be already underway.
The club plays away while the site transforms
Marbella FC is currently using the Banus Football Centre as a temporary home for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 campaigns, although capacity there remains limited. Fans are eagerly awaiting the return to a purpose-built ground, and this one, being Marbella, will be a sight to impress.
Completion target slips to 2028 at the earliest
Earlier forecasts pointed to a season 2026 to 2027 opening. However, after several delays and bumps in the road, current estimates suggest 2.5 to 3 years of construction once full permits arrive and contractors start. Optimistic voices inside the foundation are still pushing for an inauguration with a Marbella FC fixture at the first opportunity. Possible links to the 2030 FIFA World Cup add extra motivation for timely delivery.
The project marks the third bid at renewal
Past efforts stalled over years. Fresh administrative steps in spring 2026 suggest steady forward movement. Local reports mention the creation of a management company and interest from American investors.
