The Costa Calida town of Aguilas has been nominated by readers of National Geographic as one of the top beach destinations in Spain, alongside other hotspot locations in the country including Calvia in Mallorca and L’Ametlla de Mar in Tarragona.
Visitors turn their sights to Aguilas for warm beaches
As the weather gets steadily warmer, visitors begin to arrive in Spain, and thoughts begin to turn to beach and coastline fun, the Costa Calida has been at the forefront of the options among the best beaches in Spain, reaching the final stage of a shortlist created by science and nature magazine National Geographic. Aguilas, located to the west of Puerto de Mazarron, has been selected among some two hundred sites.
To be specific, Aguilas was chosen for its popular beaches on the coastline of Cabo Cope and the Sierra de Almenara. The area is renowned for its beautiful beaches and secluded hidden coves, but also for its diversity of water activities, including a prominent snorkelling and watersports community.
The Aguilas coastline is also popular due to the lack of crowds. Compared to the beaches of Barcelona or the Balearic Islands, Aguilas is an increasingly beloved destination for those looking for a holiday away from crowds, tourist culture, and bustling resorts. The Region of Murcia is known for its calm waters, long stretches of beach, and charming beach bars.
Aguilas, among the best options for a beach holiday in Spain
Tourism officials for the town of Aguilas are overjoyed at the selection; José Antonio Consentino, Tourism Councillor of Aguilas, expressed pride and happiness at the development and stated that “being among the best is already a success.”
With the selection, Aguilas is being named in the same breath as some of the most iconic and popular beaches in Spain, including Calvia in the bustling Balearic Island of Mallorca, the Ferrol Coast in Galicia, Torroella de Montgri in Catalonia, Llanes in Asturias, L’Ametlla de Mar in Tarragona, and the popular Costa Blanca beaches of Orihuela.
