If you suddenly notice more orange shirts, hats, Dutch flags, face paints and a party feel, its likely you have come across a Dutch Kings day celebration taking place.

Held every year on April 27, King’s Day is the national celebration of the Netherlands and marks the birthday of King Willem-Alexander. In cities across Holland, streets fill with music, markets and parties, with people traditionally dressed in orange, the colour of the Dutch royal family. The good news for people here on the coast is that you do not need to travel to Amsterdam to join in.

If you spot a sea of orange people, its the celebrations underway

Here we have a few of the confirmed events that have already been announced for this April, with Marbella and Benalmadena hosting celebrations across the weekend.

Nikki Beach starts early

The first event on the calendar is King’s Day Prelude at Nikki Beach Marbella on Sunday, April 26 from 12pm to 7pm. A pre-King’s Day celebration in collaboration with The Dutch Hub, bringing Dutch-themed entertainment to one of Marbella’s famous beach club.

This is ideal for anyone who prefers sunshine, sea views and daytime music with an early night to bed rather than a late finish. One of the more relaxing ways to celebrate. Reservations can be made through the official Nikki Beach Marbella website.
