From Friday, April 24, the weekly market in Torrevieja’s Antonio Soria Park will have an ambulance service available, an initiative aimed at improving the healthcare and reinforcing security in one of the busiest areas of the town. The measure was announced just ahead of the peak season spike, as security and healthcare services prepare for a spike in visitors to the Costa Blanca cultural and entertainment hub.
A permanent health resource for the residents and visitors of Torrevieja
The ambulance service is being implemented as a permanent health resource during the weekly market, as a high number of workers, merchants, and visitors frequent the park to sell and shop for local wares.
The service will be especially necessary during the summer months, as temperatures spike and the amount of visitors to the park will dramatically increase.
According to officials, the concentration of people and the weather conditions during summer can cause episodes including dizziness, drops in blood pressure, trauma or heat stroke, most of them mild but requiring rapid intervention.
Peace of mind for merchants and shoppers
The proximity of an ambulance to the market will give residents – as well as the merchants – peace of mind. The service will not only allow for transfers to health centres in the case of emergencies, but it will also be able to provide immediate, on-site assistance for anyone enduring a medical problem.
The service will be operational every Friday, or on the day the market is held if it is changed due to weather conditions, from 9:00am to 1:30pm on the grounds of the Antonio Soria Park.
The implementation of this health resource has come about with the collaboration of the departments of Public Health, Markets and Security and Emergencies, with the aim of guaranteeing an effective response to any incident. According to the Torrevieja Town Council, this action represents a significant reinforcement in the security of the market and an improvement in the quality of service offered to both citizens and visitors.
