Hundreds of hungry locals overtook the Albox Fair Grounds at the weekend, all looking to get a taste of the best burger in Almanzora Valley.

Each night, as the sun set, the grounds came to life. Bright neon signs and the tantalising smell of sizzling meet and melted cheese lured festival goers into the maze of food-trucks and picnic benches.

A relaxed vibe and a fierce competition

A relaxed, convivial atmosphere defined all four days of the festival as friends and family sipped ice-cold beers, tucked into juicy burgers and enjoyed the live-music sets that echoed across the venue.

The competition, however, was intense, both for the chefs working the grills and the dedicated foodies determined to try all eight entrants.

Everyone was encouraged to have their say, helping to crown the ultimate victor. “Eat, enjoy, vote” was the motto, and people certainly followed through on that order. Long lines stretched out from each food truck and picnic tables filled up fast.

A truly unique festival menu

Burgers weren’t the only tasty treat available. La Gio Cheesecake’s also had a prominent presence at the festival, their homemade cheesecakes a sweet alternative to the meaty menu, the perfect delicacy to end the night with.

No two burgers at the festival were alike. Each competitor served something truly unique: brightly coloured buns, decadent layers of cheese and flavourful sauces served not on top of the patty but in a syringe, to be infused into the brioche at a customer’s preference.

Winners announced

The novelty burgers were certainly popular with the crowd. Both the dark black bun of La Negra and the shocking bright blue of The Brutal Blue caught customers attention, earning them second and third place respectively.

However, neither lived up to the intense heat and unadulterated flavour of D2 Street Bar’s Tijuana Tica which was ultimately crowned the best burger in Almanzora Valley.

The Albox Burger Fest proved itself to be a fantastic, flavourful and filling addition to the local calendar. The event united the entire Almanzora Valley in their shared goal of widdling down the eight contenders to one reigning champion.
