Finnish Air Force cadets have found themselves in serious trouble after turning the sky into their very own canvas, drawing “penis-shaped” patterns during a training flight.
The Air Force cadets took off from Jyväskylä, located not far from Helsinki, for an early morning training session earlier in the month. The flight was expected to follow a routine operational route as part of standard pilot instruction. However, reports indicate that the trainees deviated from their planned flight path during the exercise. Instead of maintaining the approved training route, the aircraft reportedly began tracing deliberate shapes in the sky.

Their aerial artwork was captured by Flightradar, a widely used flight tracking service that displays live aircraft movements. Through this app, the full route became publicly visible almost immediately. The images were quickly circulated on social media, where users noticed that the aircraft had created crude, unmistakable outlines.

As shown in the Flightrader videos, the deviated flight route clearly traces a phallic pattern in surprising detail. According to tracking data, this same pattern was drawn numerous times, with multiple “penis-shaped” patterns decorating the Finnish airspace. The precision of the shapes sparked widespread online attention, turning the training flight into a viral controversy.
They drew heart-shaped patterns too
The extent of the pilot’s imagination didn’t stop there, the flight also included other formations. The cadets also drew a slightly more wholesome image of two hearts during their April training flight. These were also visible on tracking platforms, adding a more light-hearted element to an otherwise controversial incident.
Finnish Air Force responds
The Finnish Air Force has since addressed the situation publicly, condemning the behaviour of the trainees. Officials confirmed that the actions were not in line with military standards or professional conduct expected during training operations. According to reports, an internal investigation has been launched and disciplinary measures will be taken against those involved.
Authorities emphasized that while pilot training includes flexibility and skill development, unauthorized deviations from flight plans are taken seriously, especially when they result in public misconduct or reputational damage.
