One of the most practical and popular beach safety initiatives has been reintroduced. The free identification wristband scheme designed to protect children and vulnerable adults from the very real risk of getting lost on a busy beach.

The scheme from Marbella town hall offers free wristbands to anyone visiting the beach who has a young child or a dependent adult in their care. The wristbands are available on request at any of the lifeguard and water rescue modules positioned along Marbella’s coast throughout the season.

The QR code can be immediately scanned to reunite the child with the parent

Each wristband is fitted with a QR code that stores the contact details of the child’s parent or guardian, or the carer of a dependent adult. Should a child wander off or a vulnerable person become disoriented in the crowds, any member of the public or beach safety team can simply scan the QR code to immediately retrieve the contact details they need to reunite the person with their family.

It sounds simple and it is. In a resort that pulls in millions of visitors each summer, and with beaches that fill up quickly from Cabopino to Puerto Banus, the difference between a frightening hour and a swift reunion can come down to something as small as a plastic wristband.

The Town Hall is urging families to take advantage of the free service, available at every lifeguard post along the coastline. Lifeguards are briefing beachgoers at the start of each day, and the service is being promoted across the municipality ahead of what is hoped to be another record-breaking summer season.

People are encouraged to stop by a lifeguard point to collect a band

The initiative is particularly valuable for families travelling with young children who may not yet know their parents’ phone numbers, or for carers accompanying elderly relatives or adults with cognitive conditions who may struggle to communicate clearly if separated from their group.

Marbella is heavily invested in its beach safety, including drones for aerial surveillance, beach surveillance teams, and a full network of lifeguard posts.

Anyone heading to Marbella beach this summer is encouraged to stop by the nearest lifeguard and pick up a wristband for any child or vulnerable adult in their group. The service is completely free, takes just a few minutes to set up, and could make all the difference on a busy summer’s day. Spread the word to your friends so they can stay safe too.
