Residents in historic Benalmadena Pueblo can now rest and begin to breathe easier after local officers detained two highly likely suspects linked to multiple break-ins. Since their detention, the town has seen a pronounced drop in cases of this kind.
Robberies are concentrated in the old town area
Burglaries mainly struck homes and shops in the narrow streets and traditional buildings of Benalmadena Pueblo, the historic heart of the Malaga Province town. Incidents began around January 5 during the Three Kings parade and continued mostly on Friday nights when properties stood empty with their occupants out for the celebrations and weekend social events. The modus operandi was simple and repeated: thieves entered through balconies or windows, taking only cash and gold jewellery that fitted easily into pockets while leaving larger electronics and even quality costume pieces untouched.
Special security operation leads to arrests
Local police launched an intensive operation in coordination with national police officers to investigate and tackle the crime wave that had unsettled the whole community. Uniformed patrols increased visibility on foot and by vehicle while plainclothes teams carried out discreet surveillance. This combined approach, involving many hours of dedicated work, produced results in the early hours of 20 April when two men came into custody.
Suspects handed over for further enquiries
Officers from Benalmadena Policía Local made the arrests and immediately transferred the pair to Policía Nacional. Investigators are continuing to examine possible connections to other offences across the province while preparing the case for court. No further details about the identities or exact charges have been released at this stage.
Community relief follows months of concern
Neighbours had reported growing anxiety over repeated incidents that targeted compact valuables in the compact old quarter. The focused policing response appears to have disrupted the pattern and restored some peace of mind in this popular residential spot on the Costa del Sol.
