Benidorm’s popular Theatre Showcase is returning for its fourth edition this month, bringing a packed programme of comedy, drama and live entertainment to the city’s Cultural Centre.
Running from May 22 to 30, the annual festival will feature four productions performed by both amateur theatre groups and professional actors, cementing the event’s growing reputation as one of the highlights of the local cultural calendar.
Organised by Benidorm’s Department of Culture, the showcase will once again take place at the Rafael Doménech Auditorium inside the Cultural Centre, with organisers promising a varied line-up designed to appeal to audiences of all ages.
Mix of professional and local talent
This year’s programme combines performances from local theatre companies with a major appearance from award-winning Spanish comedy theatre group Yllana, widely recognised for its visual humour and international productions.
Three of the four performances will be staged by amateur theatre groups from Benidorm and surrounding towns, reflecting the city’s commitment to supporting grassroots performing arts.
Participating companies include Foromutis Teatro, Alpí Teatre and Tossal Teatre, all of which have become well-known names within the Marina Baixa theatre scene. Their productions will range from light-hearted comedy to more emotional dramatic performances.
During the official presentation of the festival, Culture councillor Jaime Jesús Pérez praised the work of local theatre groups and highlighted the importance of keeping live performance accessible within the city.
He said the showcase has become an important cultural event for Benidorm, helping to encourage creativity while also giving amateur actors the opportunity to perform in a professional venue.
Tickets already on sale
Tickets for individual performances are now available, with organisers also offering a special festival pass allowing theatre lovers to attend all four productions at a reduced price.
The festival has continued to grow in popularity since launching four years ago, attracting both residents and tourists looking for evening entertainment beyond Benidorm’s beaches and nightlife.
The return of the Theatre Showcase also forms part of a wider cultural programme taking place across the city this spring and summer, including concerts, exhibitions, dance performances and outdoor events.
Local officials hope the festival will once again help showcase Benidorm as more than just a holiday destination, highlighting its expanding arts and culture scene alongside its tourism appeal.
With professional performers, community talent and a diverse programme on offer, this year’s edition is expected to draw strong audiences throughout the week-long celebration of theatre.
