Torremolinos is greasing up its gears ready for the return of one of its most beloved annual events, the Torremolinos bicycle and skate day. Cyclists and skaters of all ages are invited to celebrate along the stunning Costa del Sol coastline Saturday, May 16.
What is the Dia de la Bicicleta y del Patin?
Now in its whopping 36th year, Dia de la Bicicleta y del Patin or Day of the Bicycle and Skate, is a free sporting event organised by Torremolinos Town Council to encourage outdoor physical activity. Councillor for Sports Ramon Alcaide described it as a “sports festival that people of all ages can join,” with its core goal being to promote healthy living and family togetherness in the fresh open air.
Two routes for all ages and abilities
Starting from the Los Alamos area, participants aged eight and over can tackle an eight-kilometre coastal circuit. Children under seven are catered for with a shorter, designated route near the start line, which also features a fun skills gymkhana.
Prizes and costumes
More fun with awards up for grabs. One for the school with the greatest number of participants, one the group with the highest turnout, and then another for whoever turns up in the most creative costume.
How to be involved and take part
Entry is completely free, you can either register online via the Torremolinos Despega app then simply turn up at the Los Alamos car park esplanade, next to El Galeon beach bar (Playamar Beach), from 10am to collect a bib number before the 11am start. Or you can just turn up on the day. The event ends around 1pm.
If you fancy a morning of fresh air and exercise and maybe even a prize, then get your costume on, your tyres pumped and head to Torremolinos.
