DEBRA Piel de Mariposa, Spain’s only national charity for children with Epidermolysis bullosa, known as butterfly skin, is holding its 5th annual Solidarity Event in Marbella on Saturday, May 16. The event is open to everyone, to raise funds for families living with a rare and currently incurable condition. Each activity costs just €5, with all proceeds going directly to support affected families.

What will happen on the day

Starting at 10am at Plaza Supera Miraflores, you can take part in any of the below activities, start of with a 10am session of BodyCombat, at 10:45am you can enjoy a Canine unit display by Marbella Local Police, then at 11:15am you have the choice to get your moves on with Zumba or to really get the blood pumping with Spinning. Then to top it all off 12pm there is XtremFit.

The event is supported by Marbella’s Town Hall and runs in partnership with Supera fitness centres.

The incredible reason behind all the sweating

Founded in Marbella in 1993, DEBRA regularly holds fundraising events in the area. Every euro raised supports their team of nurses, psychologists and social workers, who care for more than 300 families with butterfly skin across Spain. It is the only organisation in the country offering this specialist support. Epidermolysis bullosa (EB) is a rare genetic condition in which the skin is as fragile as a butterfly’s wing. Even the lightest touch can cause open wounds, blistering and peeling, and daily wound care can take up to five hours.
