The coastal municipality of Torrevieja is fresh off the heels of the excitement of its traditional May Fair, a celebration held at the beginning of May in the town’s idyllic Antonio Soria Park concert venue. The fair, despite some unfavourable weather conditions, was a major success, with this edition marked by live music, dancing, traditional Andalucian cultural offerings, an equestrian show, and much more.
Rain did not stop play for Torrevieja’s iconic May Fair
The May Fair filled Torrevieja’s iconic park with a festive atmosphere, also coinciding with the Sevillanas celebrations. The popular event attracted thousands of visitors from across the Costa Blanca and beyond, uniting locals and visitors with activities and performances combining folklore, food, and fun.
The Fair had a particular focus on local talent, with Torrevieja dance academies dazzling crowds with high-energy and technically complex performances on the grand main stage of the Antonio Soria Park venue. One of the most anticipated performances of the May Fair was the La Carta Cuerda performance, a dance group that merges flamenco, pop, and rumba and has become one of the most promising contemporary groups on the emerging Torrevieja dance scene.
Fireworks, horse parades, and a distinctive Andalucian atmosphere
To keep up with the Andalucian atmosphere, another group, Raya Evolution, also put on a spectacular performance, this time incorporating traditional festival music from the southern autonomous community.
This edition of the May Fair also featured fireworks spectaculars, a parade of horsemen and carriages that delighted the crowds and especially children in the municipality, and a copla competition which showcased the participants’ prowess at this traditional poetic and musical Spanish art form.
Over the weekend, Torrevieja visitors and locals proved that a little rain would do nothing to stop their celebrations. This year’s edition of the May Fair was a grand success in the municipality, drawing countless visitors and bringing traditional charm to the idyllic Costa Blanca town. With fireworks, music, dancing, food, and laughter, Torrevieja has kicked May off in a major way.
