Sand beneath your feet, a soft sea breeze moving through the air, and a sense of calm settling in as people gather by the shoreline. That’s what you can look forward to on Sunday, May 14 when the Free Spirit Movement host’s their annual “Dance for World Peace” event. Locals and visitors alike are invited to come together in a shared moment of reflection, movement, and connection.
Morning gathering at Playa de la Mena
Taking place on the Playa de la Mena beach in Mojacar, a white-clad group will gather at 10.30am for a peaceful assembly. They’ll start their morning with a prayer for peace on Earth, setting a quiet and thoughtful tone for the rest of the gathering.
This is not a choreographed routine, but rather an opportunity to connect with and appreciate the Earth. Participants are allowed to move freely and naturally in response to the music, the surroundings, and their own inner state.
Barefoot dancing and connection with nature
Following the prayer, attendees will take part in barefoot dancing directly on the sand. The idea is to encourage a more grounded experience, reconnecting with the natural environment and appreciating the simplicity of movement outdoors. The atmosphere is intended to be inclusive and relaxed, welcoming people of all backgrounds and beliefs.
While this won’t solve the long list of issues plaguing humanity, organisers hope it will help ease the hearts and souls of those in attendance and offer a glimmer of hope. Many who attend return each year for the calm, welcoming environment and the opportunity to step away from daily pressures.
What to bring and how to prepare
Organisers encourage all in attendance to wear white and to bring a flower to be placed upon the communal altar. This symbolic gesture is part of the collective focus on peace and unity. Should the sun make an appearance, sun cream and a bottle of water are also recommended.
Vegetarian lunch at Chiringuito Tito
After the beach gathering, participants are invited to continue the day with a vegetarian paella lunch at Chiringuito Tito, starting at 1:30pm. While the “Dance for World Peace” event is free, the meal is priced at €5 and includes a complimentary drink, offering a relaxed setting to share food and conversation with others attending the event.
All are welcome to attend. Whether deep into their spiritual journey, exploring new beliefs or simply in need of a moment’s peace.
