Food lovers, artisan producers and families from across the region are preparing for one of the most anticipated events in the Almanzora calendar as the second annual Zurgena Gastronomic Food Fair takes place on May 23. Hosted at the RENFE fairgrounds in Zurgena from 12pm onwards, the event promises a full day dedicated to Andalusian gastronomy, local traditions and handmade products from across the Almanzora Valley.
Following the huge success of last year’s inaugural edition, organisers are expanding the experience for 2026 with even more food stalls, artisan displays, live entertainment and family activities. The fair has quickly become a showcase for the rich culinary identity of the Almanzora region and a celebration of the people who continue to preserve its traditional flavours and customs.
Traditional Almanzora cuisine takes centre stage
Visitors attending the Zurgena Gastronomic Food Fair will have the chance to explore a carefully curated selection of stalls featuring local produce, homemade delicacies and artisan specialities. From traditional stews and cured meats to cheeses, baked goods and regional wines, the fair offers a true taste of the Almanzora Valley.
The aroma of freshly prepared dishes is expected to fill the RENFE fairgrounds throughout the afternoon as exhibitors share recipes that have been passed down through generations. Many of the dishes featured at the event reflect the agricultural heritage of inland Almería and the strong connection between food, family and local culture.
Organisers behind the event, branded under the name “Saboriza”, aim to give visitors an authentic gastronomic experience while also supporting small producers, artisans and local businesses from the comarca.
Artisan crafts, culture and family entertainment
Beyond the food itself, the fair will also include artisan craft stalls and cultural activities designed to appeal to all ages. Handmade products, traditional crafts and demonstrations will add another layer to the event, highlighting the creativity and heritage of the Almanzora region.
Families can also enjoy live music, leisure activities and entertainment throughout the day, creating a lively festival atmosphere in the heart of Zurgena. Last year’s edition featured performances in both Spanish and English to cater for the area’s international community, something organisers are expected to continue this year.
Zurgena strengthens its place on the gastronomic map
The first edition of the fair attracted more than 30 exhibitors and drew visitors from across the province, helping position Zurgena as an emerging gastronomic destination in inland Almería. Local authorities and tourism representatives praised the event for promoting regional products, supporting entrepreneurship and encouraging tourism in the Almanzora Valley.
With its growing popularity, the Zurgena Gastronomic Food Fair is steadily becoming one of the standout food and culture events in the province. By combining traditional recipes, artisan craftsmanship and community spirit, the event offers visitors the chance to experience the authentic essence of the Almanzora Valley in one vibrant setting.
The second edition of Saboriza is free to attend and is expected to attract both locals and tourists eager to discover the flavours, stories and traditions that make Zurgena unique.
