Mojácar is once again taking action to protect its stunning coastline with a new environmental volunteer day focused on removing litter from local beaches. The initiative, which will take place on Saturday, 30 May, aims to bring together residents, visitors and tourists in a shared effort to preserve the natural beauty and biodiversity of the Almería coast.
Organised under the slogan “United Against Litter”, the event forms part of the nationwide campaign “Free Up, 1m² for Beaches and Seas”, led by SEO/BirdLife in collaboration with Ecoembes and with the direct support of the Mojácar Town Hall. The campaign highlights the growing problem of waste in natural environments and encourages communities across Spain to play an active role in protecting beaches and marine life.

The clean-up day will officially begin at 10am at Marina de la Torre Beach, near the lifeguard stations, where volunteers will gather before teams are assigned to different areas of the coastline. Organisers will provide the necessary materials and guidance to participants throughout the morning.
The initiative is open to people of all ages and is expected to attract a strong turnout from both locals and holidaymakers who want to make a positive contribution to the environment while enjoying one of the region’s most picturesque coastal settings.
Raising awareness about marine pollution in Almería
Beyond simply collecting rubbish, the event also aims to raise awareness about the environmental impact of litter on beaches and in the sea. Plastics and other waste materials can seriously harm marine ecosystems, affecting wildlife and polluting the Mediterranean coastline.
By encouraging collective action, Mojácar hopes to inspire long-term habits that support sustainability and environmental responsibility. The town continues to strengthen its reputation as a destination committed to protecting its natural surroundings and promoting eco-friendly tourism.
Anyone wishing to take part must register in advance by contacting the Mojácar Tourism Office on 950 61 50 25. Through initiatives such as this, Mojácar is reminding everyone that caring for the environment begins with protecting every square metre of its coastline.
