As temperatures continue to rise across southern Spain, Mojácar’s beaches are already beginning to welcome larger crowds of residents and tourists eager to enjoy the Mediterranean coastline. In response to the growing influx of weekend visitors ahead of summer, Mojácar Town Hall has officially implemented a new coastal safety plan designed to improve beach safety, emergency response and visitor wellbeing during the busy 2026 season.
Weekend lifeguard service introduced on four Mojácar beaches
In preparation for peak summer tourism, trained lifeguards will now patrol four of Mojácar’s busiest beaches every Saturday and Sunday throughout May into summer: Marina de la Torre Beach, Lance Nuevo Beach, Venta el Bancal Beach and Ventanicas Beach.
The service will operate continuously from 11.00am until 7.00pm, covering the hours when beach attendance, temperatures and water activity are typically at their highest. The preventative measure has been introduced to ensure that both locals and visitors can enjoy Mojácar’s coastline in safe conditions before the official summer season fully begins.
Lifeguards will monitor both the sand and surrounding waters, allowing emergency teams to respond quickly and efficiently to incidents ranging from swimmers in difficulty to heat-related illnesses and other beachside emergencies. The initiative will also help prevent smaller issues from escalating during busy weekends.
Beach Safety a Priority During Peak Tourist Months
High temperatures, open water and potential alcohol consumption can create dangerous situations along the coast, particularly during crowded weekends. Mojácar Town Hall says the expanded surveillance plan is intended not only to improve emergency response times, but also to encourage responsible use of the beaches and greater awareness of coastal safety measures.
Visitors are being encouraged to respect lifeguard instructions, swim responsibly and remain aware of changing sea conditions as the municipality prepares for another exceptionally busy tourist season.
Mojácar Strengthens Reputation for Quality Beaches in 2026
The coastal safety initiative comes shortly after Mojácar strengthened its reputation as one of Andalucía’s leading seaside destinations by securing six Blue Flag awards for the 2026 season. Marina de la Torre, Lance Nuevo and Venta del Bancal-Ventanicas are among the beaches recognised for their excellent water quality, environmental management, accessibility, safety standards and visitor services.
The municipality has continued to build on decades of investment in sustainable tourism and beach infrastructure, with much of Mojácar’s urban coastline now holding internationally recognised quality distinctions.
By combining enhanced weekend lifeguard patrols with its award-winning beaches, Mojácar aims to provide the relaxed, safe and family-friendly coastal experience visitors have come to expect from one of Almería’s most popular holiday destinations.
