Former world class football stars including David Silva, Frank de Boer and Fernando Sanz are heading to Marbella for the latest round of the World Padel Soccer tournament.

More than 30 ex-footballers from several countries are expected to take part in the event, which will run from Monday, June 1 to Wednesday, June 3 at Club de Padel Los Granados. Marbella Town Hall has once again backed the competition for the fifth year running.

Year on year the competition grows, attracting high profile well-known names from football and drawing international attention to Marbella. Former Spain internationals Fernando Llorente, Javi Martinez, Ruben de la Red and Albert Luque are in the list of stars expected to grab their racquets and participate.

Marbella expects major tourism boost

Marbella Mayor Angeles Munoz praised the tournament during its official presentation at Hard Rock Hotel Marbella, describing the competition as an important link between sport and tourism. Town Hall estimates place the economic impact at more than €2 million for the local area.

Jose Bernal, the Marbella-born professional padel player who created the event, said demand from former footballers continues to rise as Padel continues to explode over the globe. Fernando Sanz also revealed that organisers now receive more players requesting to take to the courts than there are places available.

Opening activities will begin on June 1 with a pro-am tournament featuring footballers, sponsors and professional padel players. Group-stage matches will follow on June 2 before the finals and closing gala on June 3.

A great charity cause supported

This year’s event will also support a charity campaign for Daniela, a young girl sadly affected by an extremely rare medical condition known as multisystemic smooth muscle dysfunction syndrome. Fundraising activities during the tournament will help support treatment efforts and increase awareness of the disease.

World Padel Soccer has grown massively since its launch in Marbella in 2022. Previous years have brought together football legends, celebrity guests and major sponsors with this years looking to top them all.
