The shining coast of Mazarron was once more the centre of attention for inclusive sports on the Costa Calida: the charming coastal municipality recently hosted a special training camp for the beach football team of the Federación de Fútbol de la Región de Murcia, or FFRM, bringing together players with intellectual disabilities as they prepare for an upcoming national competition.

Mazarron, the destination of choice for national-level beach football teams

The session took place on the coastal town’s beach facilities, which have long been a destination of choice for beach football teams from all across Murcia and beyond. Mazarron’s beaches offered a focused environment ahead of the Spanish Championship, set to be held in Cadiz from the weekend of May 22 to 24. The training camp forms part of the federation’s continued efforts to promote inclusive sport, while ensuring competitiveness at a high level.

Chiky Ardil visits the team and shares words of wisdom and motivation

This particular sporting event on the beaches of Mazarron was marked by a visit from Chiky Ardil, widely regarded as one of the top beach football players in the world. During his time with the squad, he shared insights from his professional experience, offering tactical advice as well as motivation to the players ahead of the tournament. His visit added a further layer of inspiration to what was already a significant preparatory session.

Mazarron officials also attended the event. María Isabel Carrillo, Councillor for Social Policy and Sports at Mazarron City Council, attended the training and expressed her backing for initiatives that foster inclusion through sport. Her involvement highlighted the role local authorities play in supporting opportunities for athletes of all abilities.

Both the federation and local stakeholders emphasised the importance of combining sporting ambition with social impact. The team now turns its attention to Cádiz, where it will compete on the national stage. With preparations in Mazarron complete, the squad will now head into the national competition with optimism, determination and greater teamwork.

“We continue working with great enthusiasm and effort to be fully prepared for the major national event,” said the FFRM in a post about the event.
