Following several days of yellow alerts for unseasonably high temperatures, Spain’s state meteorological agency AEMET has forecast a welcome slight easing of the heat across much of southern and eastern Spain this midweek.
On Wednesday, June 3, temperatures in the Vega Baja area of the south Costa Blanca are expected to reach around 31ºC, while the Costa del Sol and much of the South Coast will see highs near 30ºC. Further east, Mallorca and most of the Mediterranean coastline should enjoy dry and pleasant conditions, offering ideal weather for outdoor activities and beach days.
Cooling, but keeping the warmth
Thursday, June 4, will stay warm with temperatures hovering between 34ºC and 36ºC along the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca. Light cloud cover is predicted over Murcia, which may provide some relief from the intense sunshine. However, the northern half of Spain is set for a complete contrast, with a soaking band of rain sweeping from west to east. Heavy showers and possible thunderstorms are likely to affect areas from Galicia, to the Pyrenees.
The pattern continues into the end of the week. By Friday, the chance of localised rain storms increases around Javea and Denia in the northern Costa Blanca, while the Balearic Islands may experience muggy conditions with increased cloud cover. Much of the south and east coasts will see patchy cloud, which should help keep extreme temperatures in check, with maximums generally in the upper 20s to low 30s. Isolated afternoon showers are also possible over Murcia and parts of the northern Costa Blanca.
Northern Spain’s different rainy story
Meanwhile, the far north of the country, including the Pyrenees, Basque Country, and Catalonia, will continue to bear the brunt of unsettled weather, with persistent rain and cooler temperatures.
Residents and early holidaymakers are advised to stay hydrated, use sun protection during the warmer spells, and check local forecasts for any sudden changes, particularly in storm-prone northern areas.
