One of Britain’s greatest jazz vocalists and pianists is heading to Torremolinos for a spectacular performance, bringing music lovers an unmissable evening of jazz, soul, and raw talent on Friday, June 12 at 10pm.
The Clarence Jazz Club in Torremolinos will host this truly magical night of music as Liane Carroll brings her power trio to town. This isn’t just a standard tour stop, this cozy Costa del Sol gig will give jazz aficionados a front-row seat to a musician who commands major festival stages back in the UK.
Carroll isn’t just another vocalist, she holds an impressive two BBC Jazz Awards for Best Vocalist, and a career spanning decades defined by an incredible ability to move effortlessly from fierce, soulful energy to heartbreakingly raw ballads.
A career full of accolades
Carroll’s list of achievements within the jazz world is extraordinary. A frequent winner at both the British Jazz Awards and the Parliamentary Jazz Awards, she took home the prestigious Jazz Musician of the Year award in 2008, presented by then-Secretary of State Andy Burnham.
Her critically acclaimed album Up and Down claimed Jazz Album of the Year at the 2012 Parliamentary Jazz Awards, and in 2016 she received the coveted Gold Award from the British Academy of Songwriters, Composers and Authors (BASCA).
Industry critics have delivered quite the praise on the artist. Dave Gelly of The Observer described her as “one of the most stylistically flexible pianists around, with a marvellous, slightly husky singing voice,” while John Fordham of The Guardian lauded her “Ella Fitzgerald-like improv athleticism and an emotional frankness on ballads.”
International star power on the coast
Carroll’s career has taken her from touring internationally with Trevor Watts’ Moire Music to recording with Ronnie Scott’s iconic Jazz House label.
Her high-profile collaborations include working with rock royalty Sir Paul McCartney, who provided backing vocals alongside her on a charity single for Brazilian street children, as well as the legendary Gerry Rafferty and Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
