Torrevieja will once again come together to recognise the service, sacrifice and dedication of Armed Forces personnel, veterans and their families when the town hosts its annual Armed Forces Day commemorations later this month. The event has become an important date on the local calendar, bringing together residents of many nationalities, community groups and military representatives in a shared show of appreciation and respect.
Parade and ceremony in the heart of Torrevieja
Torrevieja will come together on Saturday, 27 June, to recognise the service and sacrifice of Armed Forces personnel, veterans and their families as the town hosts its annual Armed Forces Day commemorations.
The event, hosted by the Torrevieja Branch of The Royal British Legion, will take place in Plaza de la Constitución and is expected to attract residents, visitors, veterans and community groups from across the Costa Blanca.
Proceedings begin at 5:50 PM with a Parade of Standards and Veterans from Plaza Miguel Hernández to the church square. Veterans of all nationalities are invited to take part in the parade, which will be led by the Torrevieja Pipes and Drums.
Ahead of the parade, the Phoenix International Concert Band will entertain spectators outside the Church of the Immaculate Conception from 5:40 PM, helping to create a festive atmosphere before the formal proceedings begin.
The main ceremony starts at 6:00 PM and will bring together veterans, serving personnel, local authorities, emergency services, community organisations and residents.
Community leaders and international guests are expected
Councillor for International Residents, Gitte Lund, is expected to attend alongside representatives from the British Consulate in Alicante and other invited guests.
Organisers have also invited British Ambassador to Spain Sir Alex Ellis, while representatives of both British and Spanish military organisations are expected to be present.
The event reflects the strong relationship between the international community and local residents in Torrevieja, where veterans from several countries have made their homes and continue to play an active role in community life.
Recognising service and sacrifice
Armed Forces Day is held annually to recognise the contribution made by serving personnel, reservists, cadets and veterans. It also provides an opportunity for communities to show their appreciation for those who have served and to remember the sacrifices made by military families.
Events such as these help ensure that the service of past and present military personnel is not forgotten while also highlighting the important support networks that exist within local communities.
Organisers are encouraging residents of all nationalities to attend and support the event, which they say celebrates service, friendship and the strong ties between the British and Spanish communities in Torrevieja.
