A new charity shop is set to open in Torrevieja later this year, and organisers are appealing for volunteers to help bring the project to life. The initiative aims not only to create a welcoming community space but also to generate funds for social projects supporting people facing difficult circumstances across the local area.
Helping hands needed ahead of September launch
Volunteers are being sought to help launch a new charity second-hand shop in Torrevieja, with organisers hoping to open the doors in September.
Second Hand Spain has secured premises in the town and is now looking for people willing to help prepare the shop for opening. The project is being developed in partnership with the Seamen’s Church in Torrevieja, with profits going towards social projects and helping people facing difficult circumstances.
Work will continue throughout July and August, with donated goods initially being collected through a container located on site.
Organisers need volunteers to help receive and sort donations, organise storage areas, prepare stock, assist with decorating the premises and, eventually, help staff the shop once it opens.
Supporting the local community
Donations will be accepted three mornings a week between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM, with the early hours chosen to avoid the worst of the summer heat.
From September, volunteers will begin fitting out the premises, arranging stock and preparing the store for opening.
Organisers say the project will not only create a new meeting place for Scandinavians on the Costa Blanca but will also generate funds for important social work in the local community.
Charity shops play an important role in supporting worthwhile causes while also promoting recycling and reuse. By giving unwanted items a second life, they help reduce waste while raising money for projects that benefit local residents.
How to get involved
The organisers are keen to hear from anyone who can spare a few hours, whether regularly or occasionally, during the preparation phase and after the shop opens.
Volunteering can provide an opportunity to meet new people, learn new skills and become part of a community-focused project from the very beginning.
Anyone interested in volunteering or finding out more about the initiative can email secondhand.torrevieja@outlook.com for further information.
With preparations now under way, organisers hope the new shop will become a valuable addition to Torrevieja’s charity sector while providing practical support for people in need throughout the community.
