This July, the coastal town of Calpe will bring back one of its most beloved and anticipated summer traditions: the Cinema a la Mar programme, or Cinema by the Sea, is a free open-air film festival that transforms the town’s stunning sandy shores into a theatre lit by the stars.
Cinematic evenings under the stars
Running from Tuesday, July 7 through Thursday, July 23, the event will offer residents and visitors a way to spend their warm summer evenings, with their friends, family, and loved ones. Screenings will take place across some of Calpe’s most iconic beaches, including the bustling Playa de La Fossa and the expansive Playa del Arenal-Bol.
The movies will begin at 10:00pm, making for the perfect post-dinner plan after a relaxing day of soaking up the Spanish sun on the Costa Blanca. Moreover, the admission will be entirely free, with visitors needing to bring only a beach towel, a folding chair, and some snacks. This accessible activity will provide a community-centred atmosphere where residents and visitors alike can gather, socialise, and enjoy a pleasant evening, right on the coastline.
A diverse film lineup for the whole family
The films being showcased in the July edition range from action-adventures to comedy films, making for a perfect night to bring the little ones along. The films in this year’s edition of the programme include Sonic 3: The Movie, Policán, and El Especialista (The Specialist).
Weatherproof plans for stress-free viewing
Additionally, the unpredictable coastal weather will not stop the fun; if the evening becomes too windy or rainy, the screening will move to the nearby and sheltered Plaza Mayor, meaning that families and neighbours need not worry about checking their weather apps before going to see their movie.
Whether you are a seasoned film buff or simply looking to experience authentic local life on the Costa Blanca, Cinema a la Mar captures the very essence of a Mediterranean summer night. Grab your chair, find a spot on the sand, and enjoy the show.
