Inclusive tourism ensures no one misses out on taking a dip in the water and mobility restrictions do not prevent anyone from enjoying the glorious Mediterranean Sea. Torrox Town Council has officially activated its comprehensive assisted bathing programme, designed to remove physical barriers across its local coastline.
2026 dedicated shoreline support system
Running daily until Thursday, September 17, the local initiative targets individuals with special needs, elderly swimmers, and anyone recovering from temporary injuries such as fractured bones. Specialist equipment, including amphibious chairs, adapted crutches, and custom boardwalk ramps, has been rolled out across four main coastal zones, El Morche, El Cenicero, Ferrara, and El Peñoncillo.
Mayor Oscar Medina announced that a 10-strong team of Civil Protection volunteers are driving the operation, providing physical stability and essential reassurance to beachgoers. Operational hours are split into two daily shifts, running from 11am to 2pm and returning from 5pm to 8pm, to guarantee extensive coverage during busy peak hours.
Easy and seamless beach booking
Swimmers requiring assistance can arrange their visits directly with the local support network. Families or individuals need to provide their full name, contact details, and their preferred location among the four designated accessible points. Bookings can be made by calling +34 952 53 04 73 or via email at proteccioncivil@torrox.es.
Beach quality measures and lifeguard safety
As well as the accessibility, local safety measures have also been ramped up across the town this summer, with rigorous beach hygiene testing, legionella screening in public showers, and mobile skin-protection awareness campaigns. Surveillance upgrades have also modernised the shoreline infrastructure, incorporating high-tech aerial rescue drones with highly trained water-rescue support dogs to patrol local sands on busy weekend afternoons.
Blue Flag awards have recognised three local bathing destinations, specifically naming El Morche, Ferrara, and Cenicero-Las Dunas for pristine environmental management.
