Healthcare services across the Marina Alta have been strengthened for the summer as authorities respond to the annual influx of tourists and seasonal residents.

From Wednesday July 1, the Dénia Health Department has introduced a series of temporary measures in Javea, Moraira and Calpe that will remain in place throughout July and August, with some services continuing into September. The annual reinforcement plan is designed to improve access to primary healthcare during one of the busiest periods of the year for the Costa Blanca.

The additional resources aim to reduce pressure on local health centres as visitor numbers climb across the region’s coastal towns.

Javea and Moraira extend healthcare provision

One of the most visible changes is in Javea, where the seasonal health clinic at Arenal Beach has reopened for the summer. Situated on Carrer Brussel·les, the clinic is open Monday to Friday from 9am until 4pm, with Saturday opening hours from 11am to 3pm.

Moraira has also expanded its healthcare services. During July and August, the town’s health centre will remain open until 7pm instead of closing at 3pm, giving patients greater access to medical care during the peak holiday season.

The extended hours are intended to help meet the increased demand generated by the area’s growing summer population.

Calpe strengthens beach clinic

Calpe has also reinforced its seasonal healthcare provision.

The La Fossa beach clinic has been allocated an additional doctor, nurse and support staff member from July 1 until the end of August. The clinic continues to operate from 8am to 3pm each day.

The extra staff are expected to improve waiting times and ensure medical services can cope with the higher number of patients during the busiest weeks of the summer.

Les Marines clinic in Dénia delayed

While the summer healthcare programme has begun across much of the Marina Alta, Dénia’s seasonal clinic at Les Marines will not open as originally planned.

According to the Dénia Health Department, the opening has been postponed until the second half of July because of technical issues outside its control.

Rather than leaving the additional healthcare professionals unused, the staff assigned to the Les Marines clinic have instead been deployed to reinforce the Joan Fuster Health Centre in Dénia from July 1.

Health officials say this temporary measure will help maintain healthcare capacity until the beach clinic is ready to begin operating later this month.

The annual summer reinforcement programme reflects the significant increase in demand placed on healthcare services during the holiday season, when coastal towns across the Marina Alta welcome thousands of additional residents and visitors. By expanding opening hours, reopening seasonal clinics and increasing staffing levels, health authorities hope to ensure patients continue to receive timely primary care throughout the busiest months of the year.
