Sending your kids off to school early so you can work just got a little bit more expensive for families, as the Andalucian Regional Government has announced an increase in school service fees for the upcoming 2026/2027 academic year. This official price change will impact those who rely on the aula matinal (early morning breakfast club) to balance their work schedules with Spanish school hours.
According to the official bulletin from the Junta de Andalucia, the updates aim to standardise costs across public schools and early childhood nursery centres, responding to general inflation.
New rates for the morning care and school services
Parents utilizing the early morning breakfast club in public primary schools will now pay €1.82 per day, which totals €23.91 per month. Families with toddlers in nursery care will also see the monthly rate rise to €23.91, up from the previous fee of €20.90. For primary school pupils, this represents a notable jump from the €17.51 monthly rate that had been frozen since 2017.
Other key school services will remain at their current prices for the upcoming year. School canteen lunch service stays frozen at €5.54 per day and after-school extracurricular activities frozen at €17.51 per month.
Subsidies and financial relief for families
Expat parents worried about these rising costs can take comfort in the fact that existing income-based subsidies remain completely unchanged. Government data shows that 32% of families qualify for completely free services, while up to 55% receive partial discounts based on household income.
Substantial funding is also going to private-subsidised centres, with a €3.3 million fund launched to support school canteens in these institutions. In addition, nursery schools will receive a compensatory payout of €115 per enrolled child this September, plus specific grants per classroom unit to ensure local childcare providers remain viable.
