Once more, Cartagena has become the destination of choice for aspiring and experienced people from the film industry to shoot an upcoming blockbuster. Specifically, the Santa Ana Battery has become the set for the new film, ‘People of the Book‘, a major international production by Good Films Studios that puts the municipality in the spotlight of the audiovisual industry.
A major international production comes to town: Boosting the economy and the crew
The film crew will work in Cartagena, specifically in the Santa Ana Battery and Cala Cortina areas, for about 8 to 10 days, according to officials from the Region of Murcia, and generate a daily team of more than 100 people between professionals and technicians, of which 40 belong to the audiovisual sector of the Region of Murcia.
Showcasing the Region of Murcia’s rich filming locations
The CEO of Good Films Studios Spain, Juan Carlos Gonzálvez, described the Cartagena location, as well as other locations in the Region of Murcia, as “wonderful”. Mr Gonzálvez also explained the film company’s vision for Spain: “We intend to find the right partners to develop quality films that appeal to audiences, that showcase environments like this, and that reflect all the richness of our country.”
A bright future for regional cinema: Blockbusters coming to the Costa Calida
Cartagena being chosen as a location for a major international filming will have a profound impact not only on the generation of wealth and jobs in the municipality and in the Region of Murcia, but on the reputation of the municipality as a premier filming location. Other places on the Costa Calida, including Mazarron, the city of Murcia, and more, have already been eyed by film crews for major upcoming projects, and the films themselves help to project the natural beauty and eye-catching locations of the Region of Murcia for the whole world to see.
As the cameras begin to roll at the Santa Ana Battery, Cartagena stands ready to prove that its historic charm is a perfect match for the silver screen. With more international productions looking toward the Costa Calida, this latest shoot marks just the beginning of an exciting new chapter: one that firmly establishes the municipality as a premier, go-to destination for global filmmakers and film lovers alike.
