Relief in sight for Casares as vital mountain road finally reopens

Drivers who rely on one of Casares’s main routes have endured months of diversions and disruption now thankfully their wait is about to end.

Road set to reopen last week of July

Casares will reopen the A-7150 to traffic at some point during the final week of July, no official date has been confirmed. The road reopens, following emergency repair works carried out by the Junta de Andalucia. Landslides triggered by last winter’s severe storms caused serious damage to the route, one of the main access roads into the town, forcing its closure on safety grounds.

Normal traffic flow will hopefully return within days, though work will continue until September to finish stabilising the hillside permanently. Drivers using the route in the meantime should follow signage and safety measures still in place while final works are completed.

Nearly €2.4 million invested in repairs

Funding of close to €2.4 million has gone into the urgent intervention, launched after landslides on this stretch made closure necessary for public safety. Crews removed unstable material, reinforced the slope with anchors, installed steel cables and protective netting, and cleared and adapted drainage channels to strengthen the road further.

A regional recovery plan

Repairs form part of Plan Andalucia Actua, a recovery programme launched by regional authorities to address damage caused by recent storms across the province. Roughly 230 separate works are planned across 37 Andalucian towns as part of the scheme, covering both emergency interventions and previously scheduled improvements aimed at restoring safety across the road network. Also included in the plan is resurfacing work on the A-377 between Casares and Gaucin, a route that provides one of the main links towards Ronda from the area.
