Cantoria runs for Jaime as charity race marks 15 years

Saturday evening in Cantoria will begin with a family walk and end with an over 16’s eight-kilometre race and live music. Every €15 entry supports Duchenne Parent Project España as the village remembers Jaime Jiménez.

Jaime’s name stays with Cantoria

Held in memory of Jaime Jiménez, a young man remembered in Cantoria who lived with Duchenne muscular dystrophy, the event combines several races and a walking route in one evening. The full €15 registration fee goes to Duchenne Parent Project España. The Spanish non-profit organisation is led by parents of children affected by Duchenne and Becker muscular dystrophy. Duchenne is a rare genetic condition that causes progressive muscle weakness, and the association works to support families and advance the search for treatments.

A start line for every age

The programme opens at 7pm with “Vestigios del pasado V”, an 8.9-kilometre walking route for participants aged eight to 75.

Children then take over the start line. The 200-metre race for ages four to six begins at 7.30pm, followed by 600 metres for seven to nine-year-olds at 7.45pm. Entrants aged 10 to 12 face two kilometres at 8pm, while the 13-to-15 category covers four kilometres from 8.15pm. The chip-timed main race is advertised for 8.30pm and covers eight kilometres. It is open to runners aged 16 and over, giving more experienced participants a competitive finish without shutting families or casual walkers out of the wider event.

Registration and race-night details

All routes begin and end at the Plaza de la Constitución. Organisers have also announced children’s activities, prizes and a live-music finish to mark the 15th anniversary. Registration is available through Montureventos at €15 for the walking route, children’s races or main race. The booking page lists an overall capacity of 300, while the regulations say entries remain open until race day unless places sell out first. Participants must show identification when collecting a race number. Those under 18 also need signed permission from a parent or legal guardian.
